Dies ist eine Solo-Aufnahme von nahezu orchestraler Klangästhetik und gleichzeitig Torns erste ECM-Veröffentlichung seit dem viel beachteten Projekt prezens aus dem Jahr 2007 mit Tim Berne u.a., das vom Magazin Jazzwise wie folgt beschrieben wurde: "a vibrating collage full of shimmering sonic shapes, a dark, urban electronic soundscape - a potent mix of jazz, free-form rock and technology that is both demanding and rewarding. Viele dieser Attribute charakterisieren auch only sky. Das Album wurde im Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center im New Yorker Umland aufgenommen und anschließend in Torns eigenem "mad-scientist lair" selektiert und gemischt. only sky ist ein Album, in dessen Musik man sich verlieren kann - wieder und wieder.
