The Dolomites, a mountain range in the Southern Alps, are famous for their bizarre rock formations, their light colour and the unspoilt nature surrounding them. Not for nothing the pale mountains were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and every year attract tourists as well as nature lovers from all over the world. The literally enchanting and oftentimes cool and rough mountain landscape has left a mark on its inhabitants who have made the Dolomites a treasure trove of myths, legends and mysterious stories, still told by the old to wide-eyed young and not-so-young people. This compilation by Karl Felix Wolff (1879-1966), probably the most prominent regional writer-explorer of legends, contains the well-known tales of King Laurin and the Alp-Glow and The Kingdom of the Fanes, as well as less widespread stories like The Nightingale of the Sasslong, The Hand of Iron or Merisanas Wedding. This book is a unique collection of legends, which will shed new, mystic light on your view of the Dolomites.
