Diese Studien untersuchen den Natur- und Wissenschaftsbegriff sowie die naturwissenschaftliche Methode Albrecht von Hallers (1708-1777) in ihrer Entstehung im Rahmen des naturrechtlichen Denkens der Frühaufklärung. Von Relevanz ist dabei Hallers Beziehung zum Newtonianismus Willem Jacob 'sGravesandes, der Newtons mathematische Naturwissenschaft experimentalistisch umdeutet und die wissenschaftliche Erkenntnislehre auf der "moralischen" Evidenz aufbaut. Dies bildet den Hintergrund von Hallers Beurteilung der Hypothesen um 1750. Der Zusammenschluß der Wissenschaften von der Natur und der des Menschen, deren Analogie die naturrechtliche Matrix begründet hatte, liegt somit konstitutiv dem Hallerschen Verständnis der Physiologie und deren sozialethischen Bedeutung zugrunde, die der gläubige Naturforscher gegen "neospinozistische" bzw. materialistische Naturinterpretationen verteidigte.
