Ten years. Countless delays. A life forever changed.

Waiting for Justice is the raw, deeply personal true story of a correctional officer whose world is shattered in a single, violent moment-and whose fight for healing becomes as long and painful as the fight for justice itself.

D. Lashley never imagined that an ordinary day at work would end in tragedy. An inmate's brutal attack left her injured, traumatized, and struggling to understand why her friend and fellow officer never made it home. What followed was an unthinkable journey: surgeries, PTSD, nightmares that wouldn't stop, and a justice system that seemed determined to move at a crawl.

Through hospital rooms, courtrooms, setbacks, flashbacks, and political obstacles, Lashley battles not just the man who took her friend's life-but a system that continuously fails the people sworn to protect it. As years pass with no trial and no closure, she fights to stay strong for her children, to hold onto her faith, and to rebuild herself piece by piece.

Told with unfiltered honesty and courage, Waiting for Justice exposes the emotional toll of trauma, the invisible wounds carried by frontline officers, and the heartbreaking reality of waiting for justice in a system that too often forgets its own. Yet at its core, this is a story of survival-of a woman who refuses to be defined by violence, and who gives a voice to a friend who can no longer speak.

Powerful, emotional, and deeply human, this memoir is for every person who has ever waited-for closure, for healing, for a system to do what's right. It is a tribute to friendship, resilience, and the strength it takes to keep going when justice is nowhere in sight.
