El presente volumen pretende dar a conocer una obra manuscrita inédita escrita a principios del siglo XVIII en Gran Bretaña. Se trata de una recopilación de recetas médicas que se acompaña de un estudio de los aspectos lingüísticos contenidos en el texto. El libro también analiza otros aspectos generales que tienen que ver con la tipología del documento, así como el contexto social, histórico y cultural en el que se sitúa, pues estas referencias resultan necesarias para reconstruir y comprender la lengua del periodo. El manuscrito se atribuye a Lady Stanhope, quien pudo ser la destinataria o bien quien recopilara el material para uso propio, dado que en esta época las mujeres se ocupaban de velar por la salud de los miembros de la familia. Todo ello otorga un gran valor lingüístico y cultural al libro, ya que las recetas son reflejo de los usos, las expectativas y, en definitiva, el modo de vida de la sociedad en las que fueron escritas.The present volume aims at making public an unexplored manuscript written in Great Britain at the beginning of the eighteenth century. It is a collection of medical recipes, which is offered along with a study of the linguistic aspects of the text. The book also analyses other general aspects that have to do with the textual typology of the document as well as its social, historical and cultural context, since these references are necessary to reconstruct and understand the language of the period. The manuscript is attributed to Lady Stanhope, who could be the recipient or the compiler of the material, for women in this period were responsible for their family members' healthcare. All this gives the volume great linguistic and cultural value, since recipes mirror the practices, expectations and mindset of the societies in which they were written.
