Hi, I'm Marlys. My special education child struggled with learning to read in school where I volunteered in the classrooms, assisting students with a variety of challenges in learning to read. The school did not offer decodable books. As a result, many of the students mentally checked out from making an effort toward reading progression, giving up as soon as they came across a word they could not correctly sound out.

Students who did not get it correctly the first time were very resistant to trying again, often shutting down in the classroom.

I created this book with those students in mind. To give them the confidence in knowing that they are intelligent and capable of learning and correctly decoding the phonetic sound with the corresponding letter.

If the first time they are successful, they are much more likely to continue trying and find enjoyment in what they are reading.

Decodable books are an essential tool, supporting a structured foundation for students to rely on phonetic rules. This prevents students from resorting to guessing and lessens the likelihood of mistakes causing disappointment while learning.
