American author, educator, and theologian WILLIAM ELLIOT GRIFFIS (1843-1928) was born in Philadelphia. He is also the author of Welsh Fairy Tales, The Firefly's Lover, The Unmannerly Tiger, Brave Little Holland, and Bonnie Scotland.
