Between Paradise and Hell

Between Paradise and Hell is a literary and satirical novel about Adelin Jean, a man driven by an almost irresistible need to build, repair, organize, and help others. From the rural landscape of Chateau to the crowded neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince and, eventually, the unforgiving streets of New York, Adelin discovers that usefulness can become an offense in a society suspicious of anyone who challenges its established order.

As he builds a community square, creates opportunities for the unbanked, organizes a football team, supports schoolchildren, and gives people reasons to believe in themselves, admiration gradually turns into suspicion. Friends retreat, rumors spread, and the man who once seemed to embody hope becomes a target.

Blending psychological insight, social observation and sharp satire, Between Paradise and Hell explores exile, poverty, solidarity, betrayal, dignity and the complicated price of doing good. It asks whether paradise is ever a permanent place, or whether it exists only in brief moments when human beings build something meaningful together.
