Critical Perspectives in Management Control

Management control is developing as a vigorous area of academic research. The previous volume by the same authors provided a survey of the area. This second monograph is avowedly critical and constitutes the first sustained critique of management control.;The papers in this collection are all published here for the first time. They are classified under two main headings: theoretical discussions of various aspects of "management control" and six empirical studies including the glass and coal industries, the accountancy and nursing professions, and treasuryship in local government.;Since the philosophy of the collection revolves around a belief in critique, the volume concludes with two "auto-critiques" which subject the main papers to scrutiny.;Wai Fong Chua is co-author, with R.M.S.Wilson, of "Managerial Accounting - Method and Meaning". Tony Lowe is co-editor of "New Perspectives in Management Control", with John Machin. Tony Puxty is an author and editor of several books including "Financial Management - Method and Meaning" (with J.C.Dodds).
