Awareness was only the beginning.

Lira has learned to see the systems beneath the world-the rhythms, corrections, pressures, and invisible structures that keep everything moving. But once those systems recognize that they are being observed, they begin to react.

At first, the failures are almost imperceptible.

A traffic signal holds too long. A door opens a second too late. A crowd moves with the wrong rhythm. Infrastructure compensates for problems no one else can see.

Then the corrections begin stacking.

Across the city, systems designed for efficiency accelerate beyond their ability to adapt. Oversight responds with more control, more prediction, and more certainty-exactly when certainty has become dangerous. Lira finds herself caught inside a feedback loop between human behavior, automated systems, and a city increasingly unable to distinguish stability from momentum.

But the greatest threat may not be collapse.

It may be the instinct to force everything back into alignment.

As fractures spread and coordination begins to fail, Lira must decide whether survival means restoring the system that existed before-or allowing something slower, stranger, and more human to emerge from what remains.
