FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

Electronics engineering sits at the very heart of the technological transformation that has reshaped human life over the past century - from the vacuum-tube radio sets of the early twentieth century to the billion-transistor processors that now fit inside a wristwatch. Fundamentals of Electronics Engineering: A Comprehensive Guide to Semiconductor Devices, Circuits, and Systems has been written to provide undergraduate students, self-learners, and early-career practitioners with a single, self-contained, rigorous, and pedagogically structured account of the core principles that underpin this vast and fast-moving field.
This book grew out of many years of classroom teaching, during which I repeatedly observed that students learn semiconductor devices and circuits most effectively when theory is tightly interwoven with worked numerical examples, clear circuit diagrams, characteristic curves, and carefully graded review questions - rather than when theory and application are presented as separate, disconnected exercises. Every chapter in this book has therefore been constructed around that principle: a clear statement of learning objectives, a carefully sequenced theoretical development, illustrative figures and tables drawn specifically to support the surrounding explanation, fully worked numerical examples, and a substantial set of review questions, numerical problems, and multiple-choice questions to consolidate and test understanding.
The book begins at the foundation - the semiconductor physics that governs every solid-state device - and builds progressively through diodes, bipolar and field-effect transistors, biasing and small-signal amplifier design, feedback and oscillators, operational amplifiers and their applications, power supplies and power amplifiers, and finally digital electronics, special semiconductor devices, instrumentation, and an introduction to communication electronics. This sequence mirrors the structure of most undergraduate electronics engineering curricula and is designed to be read either cover-to-cover as a complete course, or consulted chapter-by-chapter as a reference.
I have taken particular care to ensure that circuit diagrams, characteristic curves, and block diagrams throughout the book are original and drawn specifically to illustrate the concept under discussion, and that every numerical example and formula has been carefully checked for correctness and internal consistency. Nonetheless, in a field as broad as electronics engineering, I welcome corrections, comments, and suggestions from readers and instructors, which will be gratefully incorporated into future editions.
