The Terni-Mazgout Hercynian massif, located in Morocco's eastern Meseta, is a granitic intrusion dating to 259 Ma, with concentric zoning (peripheral gabbros to central granites), embedded in Visian schists and heavily altered (sericitisations, chloritizations, greisenizations). It hosts a variety of vein-type mineralizations: N30-45 quartz veins containing gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and stibnite; N110-120-trending veins containing hematite; and N150-160-trending veins containing barite, carbonates, and quartz. The entire Paleozoic basement is overlain by a discordant Triassic sequence (red clays and doleritic basalts), whose weathering may be responsible for the observed iron cap.
