This research investigates the problematic architect-client relationship on house projects. It is an interdisciplinary study drawing theory from sociological and psychological perspectives to further our understanding of this built environment industry problem. It demystifies the architect-client relationship by providing an account of how the architectural profession's endeavour to maintain social distinction and autonomy by creating silent boundaries around itself has led to the increased distancing of the architectural community from clients who are not trained as professional architects.
