I sat down. The blank page shone.
I typed:
At six eleven in the morning, the woman across the courtyard washed blood from her sleeve while her husband packed a bag.
I read the sentence.
I changed six eleven to six eighteen.
Then I changed it back.
The first time was more elegant.
I stared at the line until the shame of having written it became indistinguishable from the pleasure of having written anything at all.
Then I opened a second document and called it NOTES OCT 2.
6:07 J at window. red on left sleeve, looks directly here.
6:18 A leaves w black canvas bag, left hand bandaged.
6:20 J back at window, changed clothes.
I saved the document.
Not for the police.

Richard Elmes is a novelist who hasn't finished a book in four years. One morning, staring across the courtyard from his apartment, he sees something he cannot quite explain. Something he probably shouldn't have seen. For the first time in years, Richard knows exactly what to write. But writers have a dangerous habit: they notice things. They reshape them. They turn lives into stories and convince themselves that observation is not involvement. As the blank page begins to fill, Richard must decide where witnessing ends-and authorship begins. I'M A WRITER is a psychological literary thriller about obsession, memory, guilt, and the perilous distance between watching a story and becoming part of it.A literary psychological suspense novella about a possible murder and a writer who knows every crime looks better on the page.
