This book examines the interrelationships between Industry 4.0 and lean management. First, both topics - lean management and Industry 4.0 - are briefly introduced and their development outlined, in order to highlight some initial parallels. Subsequently, approaches from both fields are presented and the underlying needs that gave rise to them are explored. A side-by-side comparison is then used to highlight, on the one hand, the similarities and, on the other, the differences. Based on this comparison, future trends and political influences, the aim is to examine the implications this has for production systems and industrial developments.
