Coastal regions are characterized by their flourishing economies and well-developed societies. Nevertheless, geological environments in coastal areas are notably fragile. In the context of global climate change, human activities have resulted in sea-level rise and a decline in river flow; coastal areas are confronted with immense geological and environmental pressures.
This Special Issue provides readers with information on the latest research progress in the field of long-term coastal evolution, including (but not limited to) coastal hydrodynamic and hydrological processes, coastal geomorphological evolution and shoreline changes, soil salinization and seawater intrusion, and coastal monitoring technologies and methods, etc. The goal of this Special Issue is to explore the patterns and driving mechanisms of natural succession at different scales and to support the development of nature-based solutions for ecosystem protection and coastal safety recommendations.
