"Come into the garden, Maud" - a love song that curdles into madness and war.
First published in 1855, Maud is Alfred, Lord Tennyson's daring "monodrama," a poem-sequence that follows a single feverish mind as it slides from bitter grief to rapturous love, from a fatal duel to madness and, at last, to war.
