Of Things Held Dear

Of Things Held Dear is Bill Diesing's first novel. The story centers around an elderly woman named Dorothy, who is preparing for her own death. She has contacted a gentleman named Ben to help her with the dispersal of her belongings so that her husband Andrew will not be burdened as he makes plans to close his business. Her husband plans to move to a condo after she passes. Sadly, her daughter Rebecca does not want any of her mother's belongings, causing the need to downsize.

As Ben helps Dorothy to sort through the things that she holds most dear, he learns about her amazing life as each precious item reveals a story. Her stories take place all around the world and include many memorable characters and adventures. Ben becomes aware of Rebecca's resistance to holding onto any of Dorothy's things and decides to try to make her understand their significance.

It takes a long-buried secret to force an encounter.
