A collection of forty-three selections from some of the most important contemporary plays and playwrights of the 1990s. These selections reflect actors' and student actors' desires for new and fresh scenes and monologs, pieces that are up-to-date and exciting to perform. The book reflects current trends where small theatre groups proliferate, women and minorities have a growing influence, and drama has become a truly international art form. Includes monologs for male and female actors, duet scenes for two male and two female actors, and scenes for combinations of male and female actors. Also includes four complete ten-minute plays. Thirty-five playwrights are represented including Albee, Fratti, Kushner, Horowitz, Wilder, Norman, Dresser, Gurney, Rivera, Cruz, Friel and more. Many selections contain strong language and adult situations which might be objectionable to some. Sample scenes and monologs include: A Cheever Evening by A.R. Gurney, Flux by Susan Miller, Telling Tales by Migdalia Cruz, Barking Sharks by Israel Horowitz, Angels in America and Slavs by Tony Kushner, Event Horizon by Christopher Kyle, Porno By Mario Fratti, Fragments by Edward Albee and Tape by Jose Rivera.
