Padfield on Copyright for Archivists and Records Managers

As an archivist or records manager, it is essential to keep up to date with the complexities of copyright legislation, and Padfield on Copyright for Archivists and Records Managers has been described as an 'unparalleled' resource for that purpose.

This comprehensive manual uniquely outlines copyright law in the UK with special reference to the unpublished materials commonly found in archives and records collections such as maps, legal records, records of local authorities and parish registers. It also gives in-depth information on authorship and duration of copyright in older as well as modern works and on the wide range of exceptions and limitations to copyright, particularly those relevant to archivists, records managers, librarians and curators. Offering advice on moral rights, rights in databases and duration of copyright in other countries, the seventh edition of this respected work has been extensively revised to take into account the legislative changes since the UK's exit from the European Union. Other new topics include:

• different approaches to risk management and mitigation;
• using artificial intelligence in archives and records collections;
• impediments to access and use of records created by technical protection measures;
• exceptions for electronic records and record managers;
• updated guidance on computers, computer programs and the internet;
• the legal implications of digital preservation activities;
• the impact of ongoing European and international legislative changes.

This authoritative book is core reading for all archivists and records managers, LIS professionals in libraries, museums and galleries, and students, researchers and genealogists.
