Phytopathogenic fungi and mycotoxin contamination are major constraints to global agricultural productivity, causing significant economic losses by reducing crop yield and quality. Addressing these challenges requires a more comprehensive understanding of the biochemical, molecular, and genetic mechanisms underlying plant-fungal pathogen interactions, in addition to the regulatory networks governing mycotoxin biosynthesis. Consequently, the development of innovative and sustainable control strategies has become a priority in current research. Among emerging approaches, the study of mycoviruses infecting phytopathogenic fungi has gained increasing attention as a promising tool for biological control. Mycoviruses can modulate fungal physiology, virulence, and secondary metabolism, including mycotoxin production, highlighting the importance of improving our understanding of mycovirus-host interactions and their ecological implications. The Special Issue "Plant Pathogens and Mycotoxins" compiles recent advances in these areas, including studies on plant-fungal interactions, the regulation of mycotoxin biosynthesis, and the identification of novel mycoviruses and their effects on fungal hosts. We thank all authors for their valuable contributions, reflecting the global effort to advance knowledge in plant pathology and mycotoxicology and to promote environmentally sound approaches to mitigate fungal diseases and mycotoxin contamination in agriculture.
