Zong Pu, Wang Meng, Jia Pingwa, Su Tong, Ge Fei, and others are among the elite of Chinese literature. They were literary figures who set the trends as early as the 1980s, and they have been witnesses to and participants in the cultural and social destiny of twentieth-century China. They are, in every sense, representatives of the humanistic spirit.

Author Shu Jinyu has spent over two decades at the Guangming Daily Group, during which she has conducted in-depth interviews with hundreds of celebrated writers. She is the author of In-Depth Dialogues with Mao Dun Literary Prize Winners, In-Depth Dialogues with Lu Xun Literary Prize Winners, Speak: From the Beginning - Shu Jinyu's Literary Interviews, and Taking the Pen as a Flag: Dialogues with Military Writers, among other interview collections.

Unlike her previous dialogue-based works, Reading Writers weaves together impressions of both the writers and their works, offering a reflection of the author's own understanding and insight into the writers and their literary creations. Through the eyes of a literary journalist, Shu Jinyu presents the rich and multifaceted world of literature, capturing the contours of social and intellectual life through vivid, personalized portraiture.
