This book provides a systematic and accessible account of how urban spatial form evolves in oasis cities of southern Xinjiang, China. Combining qualitative analysis with quantitative methods, it takes Korla, Kashgar, and Hotan as comparative cases for empirical analysis. The book examines the overall stages of urban development in oasis cities, the characteristics of external spatial expansion and the evolution of internal spatial structure, the main factors shaping these processes, and the prediction and simulation of future urban spatial expansion. It also identifies major problems in spatial development and proposes corresponding planning and optimization strategies for oasis cities.
The book will be useful to researchers and practitioners in urban and rural planning, urban geography, economic geography, and related fields, as well as university teachers and students and relevant public-sector professionals. By linking spatial evolution, influencing factors, simulation, and planning responses across three typical oasis cities, it broadens the analytical scope of urban spatial form research and provides a comparative perspective on the spatial development of oasis cities in southern Xinjiang, China.
