Twelve-year-old Ali, who lives in Abu Dhabi, invites his friend Dylan, an Australian, to come dune bashing. Dylan lies about his ability to drive, and their weekend driving off-road vehicles across the Liwa dunes is nearly over before it begins. Ali is furious, and Dylan must learn to drive in minutes before his skills are tested.
Looking for excitement, the boys head off across the dunes, but soft sand and speeding cars cause big problems. They race up and down dunes, explore a sand-covered deserted village and chase after wildlife. The sky is streaked with orange as the sun starts to set. They were told to be home before dark. Ali is panicked, hoping they can get home before nightfall, but the desert is far more dangerous in the dark. Can they survive in the desert?
