A year after the first outbreaks, the world has become a wasteland of rotting flesh and shattered dreams. In the ruins of civilization, small groups of survivors cling to life, battling not only the undead but their own despair. When a brutal horde overruns their camp, a ragtag band led by the hardened survivor Brett is forced to flee into the wilderness. They fight tooth and nail through waves of zombies, the ground slick with blood and the air thick with decay, until they find refuge in an abandoned factory. But safety is an illusion. Brett and the few remaining survivors make it to the city, battered and broken but alive. Inside, they find a semblance of order and protection.
