Shaun St. John awakens inside a synthetic vessel built from forbidden technology, his human consciousness transferred into a body that should not exist. But the cabal is not the only threat. Their most dangerous creation is VANTH‑01, a synthetic predator built from the stolen mind of Shaun's predecessor. When Shaun frees the predecessor's trapped consciousness, he becomes the target of a failsafe designed to annihilate every synthetic mind on Earth. The cabal, desperate to regain control, activates a final contingency: a newborn being engineered from Shaun's own evolution signature.
