Kadrash Vorrak can plan for monsters. Wrenlow is the one risk she has never figured out how to manage.

For years, the captain of The Pride and her elven healer have fought side by side across Hollowfen's brutal frontier, taking the contracts no one sensible wants and bringing their people home. Whatever burns between them has survived on arguments, near-misses, and one unspoken agreement: neither of them will ask for more. But when the Vigil Line begins to fail, contracts turn stranger, old protections weaken, and The Pride is pulled toward a threat larger than any job they have faced before.
