In the crooked little town of Bellweather, shadows are not always what they seem.
Twelve-year-old Elias has always been fascinated by the things other people refuse to notice. He lives above the Bellweather Funeral Home, a place filled with old photographs, forgotten names, and the quiet evidence that every life eventually leaves something behind. But Elias has discovered something far stranger than death.
He has discovered what happens when people are forgotten.
For years, Elias has secretly collected strange shadows in glass jars hidden in the attic. He calls them Echo Shadows-dark remnants that seem to linger after the people they belonged to have vanished from the world's memory. They move inside their jars as though desperately searching for something they have lost.
Then Elias sees something he was never supposed to witness.
A mysterious man in a long black coat walks through Bellweather carrying a pair of impossibly sharp silver scissors. Elias watches in horror as the stranger approaches an unsuspecting woman and cuts her shadow away from her feet.
The woman doesn't scream.
She doesn't even notice.
But Elias does.
And suddenly the strange things he has been collecting in his attic begin to make terrifying sense.
With his best friend Mara beside him, Elias begins digging into Bellweather's hidden history. Together, they uncover stories of people who were slowly erased from memory, mysterious disappearances that the town has somehow forgotten, and rumors of a figure known only as the Collector.
But the deeper Elias looks, the more personal the mystery becomes.
Because Elias discovers that his own shadow has already been taken.
And if the Collector can steal a person's shadow, perhaps he can steal something far more important-their place in the world.
As Elias and Mara venture beneath Bellweather's streets and into a hidden world filled with forgotten memories, living shadows, and secrets buried for generations, they discover that the Collector has been waiting for Elias for a very long time.
And Elias may not be the only person whose shadow was stolen.
There are others.
People who have existed between being remembered and forgotten for decades.
People like Noah Wren, a strange, seemingly young man who reveals that the Collector took his shadow fifty years ago-and left him trapped between the two worlds.
Now Elias must face the Collector and uncover the truth behind the shadows before Bellweather forgets him completely.
Because in a town where forgetting someone can be more dangerous than killing them...
losing your shadow might be the least terrifying thing that can happen to you.
The Boy Who Collected Shadows is a dark, atmospheric fantasy mystery filled with eerie small-town secrets, friendship, forgotten memories, supernatural shadows, and a haunting battle between those who want to be remembered and those who have learned how to disappear.
