The Missing Room

A room is missing from the floor plan.

Thirty-two years after a woman vanished while photographing a hidden chamber beneath Saint Gideon's Chapel, the evidence she left behind reaches Lily Mercer and the Open Record Project. The photographs should prove only that the room existed. Instead, they reveal something far more dangerous: people connected to the old continuity system were still moving witnesses, children, and identities long after the official records said otherwise.

Then an elderly witness disappears.

A survivor believed dead is photographed alive.

And every trail begins pointing toward Room 417, a federal space that seems to exist everywhere except where anyone is permitted to look.

Lily has spent years fighting institutions that treated possession of a record as ownership of a life. Now she faces a harder problem. Finding the truth may require opening files their subjects never consented to reveal, restoring identities some survivors no longer want, and deciding whether exposing a crime can become another form of control.

FBI agent Ethan Cole is carrying his own unfinished grief, Daniel Mercer Wren is still defining who he is after learning the truth about his childhood, and the survivors caught inside the investigation refuse to become evidence for someone else's clean ending.

As the search for the missing room closes around them, Lily must determine what justice means when the truth can restore a life, destroy one, or do both at once.
