The Talon of the Python

The Talon of the Python is a sweeping story of tradition, survival, love, loyalty, and conflict set within a deeply rooted African village society governed by custom, ancestral belief, and the authority of the gods.

When the people of Umelu are told that the restless spirit of their deceased village head must be appeased, tradition demands an extraordinary burial ceremony-and the sacrifice of a beautiful woman. Ahunma, a strong-willed slave woman purchased for that purpose, appears destined to die. But Oparadike, a respected warrior and powerful figure within the village, finds himself increasingly unwilling to accept the fate chosen for her.

Caught between loyalty to his people and his growing determination to protect Ahunma, Oparadike enters into a dangerous struggle against expectations that have governed village life for generations. Saving her means risking conflict with elders, spiritual leaders, relatives, and customs that few would dare question. As fear, suspicion, supernatural beliefs, violence, and political rivalry spread through the community, Oparadike must decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for a woman the village considers expendable.

Ahunma, meanwhile, proves to be far more than the helpless victim others expect. Bold, defiant, and fiercely protective of herself, she challenges assumptions about women, slavery, obedience, and social status. Her presence changes not only Oparadike's life but also the relationships and power structures surrounding him.
