The Widened Road

The road is open. The evidence is getting worse.

Eighteen months after the Dawnward opened the Sable Reach, the blank edge of the map has become a licensed corridor crowded with freight.

Rook returns aboard in Survey grey, the first of his people to hold an Earth commission. Nora Vale returns under formal oversight, ordered to test the finding that cost her career. Captain Aidan Locke has been told to deliver a result no one can shout down.

The road has other plans.

At every junction, recovery times are lengthening. Traffic is concentrating damage faster than Vale predicted. Ostry's red sun is failing ahead of schedule, and the people who stayed behind are running out of time while the Survey debates procedure and the reach's armed coalition counts every Earth hull.

To save a world, the Dawnward's crew must work inside rules designed to delay certainty, earn the trust of people who have learned what Earth's promises cost, and decide when an honest process becomes another way of refusing to act.
