You bought the welder. What you do not have is something worth building.
Most welding books teach you to run a bead, show you a photograph of a finished fire pit, and leave you to work out the measurements yourself. You get to the end of a chapter still unable to cut your first piece of steel with any confidence about length. Others do not tell you which machine a project needs until you are three pages in, by which point you have read a chapter for a process you do not own.
This book is 26 builds, and every one of them is a complete plan.
What you will build
MIG comes first, because it is the most forgiving and the machine most beginners own: a flat-bar parts tray, a boot rack, garden stakes, a tool rack, a sheet-metal tote, a pair of sawhorses, shelf brackets, a spiral wine holder, a log rack, a rolling shop cart.
Stick comes next, because it handles the thicker stock that farm and structural work needs: a garden-bed gate section, a trailer hitch step, a T-post driver, a boot scraper, a compost bin frame, a trailer tongue jack stand, a portable fire ring insert, porch handrail brackets.
TIG comes last, because it asks the most control, and by then you have twenty projects of practice behind you: a stainless utensil holder, a fold-flat phone stand, a coaster set, bike and tool hooks, plant markers, a patio side table, a campfire cooking grate, a folding camp table.
Who this is for
This is a projects book, not a first course in welding. It assumes you can strike an arc and run a bead, roughly, on the process you own. If you have never welded, take a class or read a foundational text first, then come back with something to build.
